Tue, 02 Feb 2010 20:35:45 +0000Couples everywhere are finding themselves strapped for cash this Valentine's day. Instead of the usual dinner and a movie, which can end up costing a fortune; try some of these ideas to spark up your holiday this year:
Creative Date Ideas
- Take a trip to the mall together. Each of you will have a spending limit of $20. Set your watches, you have 20 minutes to find the perfect gift for your loved one. Find a designated spot to meet and surprise one another.
- Send your loved one on a scavenger hunt, place sticky notes throughout the house, each one leading to the next; have the last note lead to the best present of all, you holding a box of chocolates!
- Go out for an evening of mini golf, with one round tickets averaging about 10.00 around the country, this date is fun and competitive. Have a mini competition, with the winner picking the prize!
- Have a picnic in your living room, set up a blanket, a basket full of goodies and a bottle of wine. Light the candles, turn on some tunes and dance the night away.
- Grab a sleeping bag and a book of constellations and head outside for an evening under the stars. Cuddle up and see how many constellations you can point out.
- Grab an ice cream cone and watch the sunset at your local beach or park.
Gifts from the Heart
Celebrate the 14 days of love! Leave your loved one small yet thoughtful gifts for 14 days, such as their favorite home baked cookies, greeting cards, balloons, flowers, hershey's kises, a mixed CD with all their favorite tunes etc. Get creative and on the 14th (V-Day) finish it off with their favorite candlelit meal and a romantic comedy.
Make a memory poster. Get a large white poster board and safety pin pictures, old movie stubs, love notes received and other little trinkets that remind each other of special times spent together. Pin them in the shape of a heart and give to your loved one.
Make a "feel-good jar". Take a large pickle jar, scrub it clean, decorate the outside and add little notes of encouragement for your partner. Stuff the jar with candy and other trinkets that are sure to brighten your loved one's day such as movie tickets, love coupons and pictures.
