Basket Day Gift Pancake S Valentine

Sat, 27 Mar 2010 06:36:58 +0000

My kids get plenty of toys on Christmas, Easter, their birthdays, and when they are successful at whining me to death at Target, so I have a very strict policy against buying them anything on Valentine's Day.

But I still plan to mark the day. I found this plastic tool in a cooking store that imprints the words "I Love You" into toast, and I'm going to serve it to them for breakfast on February 14. I know it's not as good as a new Lightning McQueen car, but ...

Do you buy your toddlers gifts on V Day? You're not alone if you do -- lots of other toddler mamas do mark the day with a little trinket or two, and they have some really sweet ideas that won't break the bank. Check out some of them for your own inspiration.

I buy my girls each a small heart-shaped pizza for dinner and then me and hubs go out. --catngabsmom

My girls are 3 and 19 months, and this year we are getting them both a stuffed aniimal, some candy, stickers and a card. Not spending more than $10 per child. --sararsara

I got my son and nephew the same thing for V Day! They each got a plate, cup, bowl, silverware and a placemat. They are 1 and 2 and love using big people dishes at the table. --kartersmommy820

DH gets the girls a box of chocolates and a cute pair of socks and I get our son something chocolatey and a little something ... like a package of Pokemon cards. That's it. Nothing major at all. --ThePharmersWife

For my son, we bought him a huge stuffed animal, about five books that are about love or hugs, candy, rubber duckies with hearts on them and I will probably pick up a Hot Wheels car and toss it in a little "basket of love" I make him. --farrah

I have to say that I am very good lurker! I go to your blog every day Becky! I love your ideas and your wonderful spirit! I especially love the way you organize your scrapbooking and I totally want to get going that way. I am a pure digital scrapbooker now (though I started traditionally)....and actually I am a digital scrapbook designer as well. I love to see all the different things that you share other than scrapbooking as well!I have just moved to Orem, UT and actually don't know anyone yet, but LAST YEAR for my neighbors and friends...I took a layout that I created digitally...sized it down to 3"x3"...laminated it and tied charms on twine and made ornaments! I loved the idea of taking your layouts that you have done all year and making ornaments out of them...simple and fast and makes great Christmas gifts! Here is an image of the layout I did (before I created the ornament)Keep up the great work and thanks for everything you do!

Oh how fun!For my friend gifts, I took those jumbo clothspins, decorated the front with scrapbook papers (sealed with modge podge), stood it up and in the clip part, put a poem about M&Ms and what they mean for Christmas (on matching scrapbook paper, of course). Then I stapled a small handful of christmas m&m's in a clear bag to the top of the poem. They turned out super cute!

I also supplied the correct measuring tools and a beautiful wooden spoon. I put little blue ribbons on every piece of the "puzzle" and it got the BEST reaction.

I did the homemade treat thing for some of the neighbors, but for the elderly neighbor that has diabetes, I snow blowed his sidewalks, driveway and walkway. I made cute tags that gave the instructions for the cookies and a personal note of thanks to each person receiving the gifts. EVERYONE has really enjoyed the gift and looks forward to making some hot treats. Thanks for your blog. Hilary Austin

Love this! I ordered my first Karlee bag this morning and am hoping to get it in time to use as a Christmas gift for my MIL!We just had our first big snow of the season, and we have elderly neighbors, so we shoveled their sidewalks and driveways! I also usually do custom calendars for friend/neighbor gifts (purchase a kit from Shabby Princess and customize with their photos) - that is always a huge hit! Haven't gotten my booty in gear for that yet this year, though...where does the time go?

Love, love, love the market bag! SO cute. This year, we made santa cookie plates to give. I bought cute holiday rub-ons from the craft store, and some plain white ceramic plates. Rubbed a santa on the plate - off center. Then rubbed a design all around the edge. I wrote (with a sharpie) next to the santa design "Dear Santa, We've left some cookies for you to eat, so sit a spell and rest your feet. Love, The _________" and put the family's last name on them. (I also included a note with it to let them know to only clean with a damp sponge or cloth.) Also, since we have several school age kids, we made little treat bags for them to give to their friends. We put mini-marshmallows in a bag and tied it with ribbon. Typed up a note with a little snowman on it that said "You've been naughty, so here's the scoop. All you get is snowman poop." They were a big hit!

That is my favorite bag you showed! So, so cute! For Christmas I did a few different things since I have a wide variety of "families/friends" on my list- some people got little jars of homemade apple butter (did two different kinds, caramel apple butter & marionberry apple butter), all my employees got plastic popcorn boxes that I found at $1spot in Target with micro popcorn & jr mints in them, and for all my single friends & son's preschool teachers I did "mug cakes" It's a mug filled with a special cake mix and a glaze mix with instructions on how to microwave the cake in the mug. :)Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi Becky. I love your website and check it everyday. I'm a big fan of your work and use your sketches all the time.We were hit by a big ice storm last week here in Oklahoma. Power was out for days, and some still don't have any. My power was restored, but the storm has put me so far behind in my holiday preparations. I usually bake for friends and neighbors. This year I'm going to get cake mixes and cans of frosting, tie them together with ribbon, and attach a note that reads, "Roses are red. Christmas is sweet. I'm really behind this year, so you'll have to make your own treats!" I got the idea from a scrapbooking website I visit. I think everyone will get a kick out of it, and they'll all understand too!Have a great Christmas.

I love to give oranges with cloves to neighbors, teachers, etc. Not sure if they have a name, but I take a fresh orange and poke whole cloves into it to make a design-- maybe a word like "Joy" or repeating diamonds, anything. Then I tie a ribbon around the finished orange. They smell SOOO good. To make this project more kid friendly (poking the cloves into the oranges can hurt little fingers) a child can use a nail to pre-poke a design-- or the adult can pre-poke the design and let the child fill it in.

My friends and family are all getting the same thing this year. They are all getting a small tin (lunch-box size) full of all occasion cards, that I worked on this month. There are cards ranging from valentines day to st. patrick's day, christmas, thank you, get well, birthday and of course the just because card. On top of that, they are all getting some home-made goodies :) I am actually from germany so I made some "german cookies" :) I had fun doing that, and I sure hope they will have as much fun with the cards :)

I WANT THIS BAG!!!I did standard baked goods for my neighbors, but MY neighbor gave US a Harkins bucket with attached microwave movie theatre popcorn inside (it's all one piece) then filled the bucket with movie candy (Ref Vines, gummy bears, Junior Mints, M&Ms...the classics), a Polar Express DVD and a Blockbuster movie card. I'm feeling slightly guilty about just giving her a tin of sugar!!! :)

First of all... CUTE BAG! Thank you for inviting us to share our neighbor gifts with you. I absolutely LOVE this time of year and I think figuring out what to do for our neighbor gifts and for our 12 Days gifts is my MOST FAVORITE part! This year, I am giving out a Box of JELL-O with a story attached; that won 1st place in a Woman's Day Greatest Gift contest around 1966. It is about a mother with 8 children at Christmas time, whose father has gone to find employment. It takes most of the money the father has to pay for his room and board while away but he managed to save up fifty cents to send home. The mother took that money and bought two small boxes of JELL-O as a special Christmas treat for the kids because it was their favorite and all they would afford that year. Two mormon missionaries show up at the door and she shares all this with them. The next morning they go to and buy as many inexpensive toys and such as they can and bring them back to the house in the evening for the children. The mother being so touched, wanted to give the missionaries something special in return, so she gave them the JELL-O... all that she had to give. I so love this story. Mimi grafxguys@mail.manti.com

So cute!! Love that bag. Thanks for sharing.I made treats for our neighbors (40 bags!) but for some close friends, I'm giving them small Christmas notebooks to keep lists, etc. I'm giving my best friend a subscription to Simple Scrapbooks and a scrapbooking DVD. And for my son's friends (I already gave it to his kindergarten class) I'm making little bags of reindeer food. Just mix oats, sugar and either glitter or sprinkles, then sprinkle it on the lawn on Christmas Eve to attract reindeer! ;)

For a co-worker I knitted a Coffee Koozie, she is a fellow Starbucks addict. I knitted it in white and green trim to match the colors of the cup. I put it inside a unused cup with a gc inside. When she got to work she thought she was getting a beverage and was all excited, it wasn't until she picked it up she realized the real gift was inside the empty cup. I still wonder if she was ever disappointed by the lack of beverage in the cup because she was so excited with the knitted koozie she never said.

Then I either tied a red gingerbread cookie cutter to the bag or for some I had bought the mini cookie cutter set at Crate and Barrel and included that. Have a great Christmas Becky1 I am trying 4 of your recipes for something new this year. Can't wait to see if they made my list for next year's keepers..warm Smiles!

This year instead of friend gifts, we asked everyone on our list to donate some canned food for a needy family-instead of giving our neighbors goodies, we are spending the money on canned goods for this needy family. It makes me feel good to see the pile growing-we are delivering it this week. This is hopefully a new tradition! I LOVE the bag and would LOVE to have it!
